Mount Yotei (Japanese: 羊蹄山), literally means ‘sheep-hoof mountain’, is an active stratovolcano located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park (支笏洞爺国立公園), Hokkaido, Japan. With an elevation of 1,898 meters, Mount Yotei is one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan.
Niseko (ニセコ) is a town located in Shiribeshi Subprefecture (虻田郡), one of the best locations to view Mount Yotei.
Tephrochronology indicates two eruptions at Mount Yotei. The most recent eruption is dated from circa 1050 BC while the earlier one is dated from circa 3550 BC.
The weather in the mountains is ever changing, sometimes Mount Yotei will hide in the clouds.
Whether it is sunny or cloudy, Mount Yotei is still beautiful.
Mount Yotei is also called Ezo Fuji (蝦夷富士), ‘Ezo’ being an old name for the island of Hokkaido, because it resembles Mount Fuji.
