The Kasbah of the Udayas (Arabic: قصبة الأوداية) is a kasbah (citadel) in Rabat, Morocco. It is located at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river, adjacent to the old medina of Rabat.
Located uphill and overlooking Rabat below, the monumental gate of the kasbah is considered one of most beautiful gates of Almohad and Moroccan architecture.
The construction of the kasbah can date back to the 12th century, almost 1,000 years ago.
There is a big lookout at the seaside, offering scenic views of the city of Rabat, the Bou Regreg river and the Atlantic Ocean.
The original name of the kasbah was Qasbat al-Awdāya (قصبة الأوداية). Awdāya is the plural of the word wadi, meaning ‘river valley’.
The Kasbah of the Udayas is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which makes it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Morocco.
