Hoi An (Chữ Nôm: 會安), formerly known as Fai-Fo or Faifoo, is a city in Vietnam's Quang Nam Province and is noted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The weather of Hoi An is extremely hot, most of the shops will close in the afternoon but open at night.
Water lantern is one of the famous attractions in Hoi An. The water lamp originated in India and later spread to Southeast Asia due to influence of Hindu-Buddhist cultural diffusion.
There is a small pub area in Hoi An, but there are not so many tourists in comparison to the night market.
The night market is crammed with people but not so noisy. Most of the stalls here sell local art crafts, the colorful handmade lanterns are amongst the most attractive.
The hawkers here are very friendly, even though you only take photos without buying anything, they still don’t mind.
The local government intends to promote the tourism of Hoi An, so you can see several big electric lanterns at the riverside, but not as romantic as the small one in the night market.
