Zhuji Lane (Chinese:珠璣巷) is located in Nanxiong (南雄), Guangdong (廣東), China. Zhuji Lane has been a main commercial town since Tang Dynasty (唐; 618 to 907), it was the hub of the people of the central plains of China who migrated to Guandong.
Zhuji Lane has two phases, one old area and one new area, the old area still preserves many ancient ancestral halls, and looks so nostalgic.
Zhuji Lane is about 1.5 kilometers long and north-south directional, the road is paved with cobblestones. Although Zhuji Lane is said to be the origins of Guangdong people, most of the residents nowadays are Hakka people.
On the lintel of the ancestral hall, you can usually see a surname, which means it is the old house of the ancestor of this surname.
Cured meat is the specialty of Nanxiong, the racks for hang cured meats are everywhere in Zhuji Lane.
The Well of Princes Hu is one of the famous tourist attractions in Zhuji Lane. It was said that a princess had jumped into a well to escape from the persecution in Song Dynasty (宋, 960 to 1279), a stone pagoda was then built to commemorate her.
The new area of Zhuji Lane is filled with newly built ancestral halls, all are massive and pompous, but do not have any historical value.
