Yellow River Stone Forest (Chinese: 黃河石林) is located in the southeast of Jingtai (景泰) County, Baiyin (白銀) City, Gansu (甘肅) Province, China. There are eight gullies in the scenic area, Yinmagou (飲馬溝) is amongst the most popular.
The best way to go around Yinmagou is riding on a donkey cart, since it is not peak season, the whole gully doesn’t have any other tourist, only Choumeizai and his friends.
Although it is early spring, the weather is still hot and the sunlight is strong, remember to put on some sunblock.
Yellow River Stone Forest is composed of many sand stalagmites and stone pillars in various sizes and shapes. Stone pillars and stalagmites are generally between 80 and 200 meters.
There are many scenic spots in Yinmagou, all of them are named poetically, such as ‘Falcon looking back’, ‘Elephant absorbing water’, ‘Thousand sails’, ‘Couples under the moon’ and so on.
The scenic area of the Yellow River Stone Forest covers an area of about 10 square kilometers, there are towering stone forests on both sides of the canyon presenting a very unique landform.
Yellow River Stone Forest was formed in the Early Pleistocene of Cenozoic Quaternary 2 millions years ago, under the strong uplift of the crust, the Yellow River Valley forms several deep-cut gullies, which widen the valleys continuously.
