Jianshui (Chinese: 建水) is a county in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (紅河哈尼族彝族自治州), Yunnan (雲南) Province, China. Jianshui has long been the historic center of the province, Jianshui Old Town is the most popular tourist attraction there.
There were four city gates in Jianshui, only the eastern one, Chaoyang Tower (朝陽樓) was left. The one in the photos is the western city gate, Qingyuan Men (清遠門).
There are several shopping streets in Jianshui Old Town, the streets are flanked by revamped old houses, looks so nostalgic.
Besides the shopping streets, many places are still intact from the pollution of tourists, it would be better to explore by yourself.
Jianshui is scattered with many ancient wells, most of the wells are still in use nowadays, since the wells are not the main tourist attraction, it is not easy to locate them.
With a history of over 700 years, Daban Well (大板井) is the most famous ancient well in Jianshui, and the water is pure and clean.
Every morning, locals will go to Daban Well to intake water to make tea, braised tofu and rice noodles, that's why the braised tofu and rice noodles in Jianshui are so delicious.
