Tsingtao Beer Museum (Chinese: 青島啤酒博物館) is located in Qingdao City (青島市), Shandong Province (山東省), China. The museum lies on the old site of the Tsingtao Brewery Company (青島啤酒廠), which is a world-famous manufacturing enterprise specialized in brewing beer.
In 1903, the predecessor of the Tsingtao Brewery Company, German Beer Company Qingdao Branch (日爾曼啤酒公司青島股份公司) was established, China’s first brewing factory built with European technology.
In 2003, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Tsingtao Brewery Company, the Tsingtao Brewery Museum rebuilt from the old brewery, was officially opened.
Tsingtao Beer Museum is an Occidental two-storey red building constructed in 1903 by Germans and is one of a few typical Gothic constructions within the city.
The museum retains some old brewing equipment. The first visit is the mashing department, where the raw barley is mashed before it can be used for brewing.
The museum is the first one of its kind in China, the construction of the museum provides a spectacular showcase for the local beer to oversea visitors, and has become the pride of the local people.
The air is filled with the scent of malt, which is one of the raw materials of beer. Visitors can even chew a few grains of fried malt, although it has no taste.
The old brewing room is still well preserved. Visitors can see the holographic images of the winemaker in the past, simulating the work of the winemaker, who looks like a ghost.
