Kennedy Town (Chinese: 堅尼地城) is at the western end of Hong Kong Island, it is one of the earliest developed area in Hong Kong, a real ‘old quarter’. There is an unexpectedly good traditional dim sum shop, even though it is far for Choumeizai, he still comes all the way to eat the dim sum here.
Choumeizai thinks that this restaurant has the best Chicken Roll(Chinese: 雞紮) in Hong Kong, the Chicken Roll is very tasty, the chicken wrapped inside is chicken thigh with bone, the taste of chicken is much richer.
However, the most amazing part is, they won’t use ham like other normal restaurants but using pig’s stomach, which makes it more crunchy and less oily than ham.
The restaurant has several kinds of steamed rice, this time Choumeizai chooses Steamed rice with pickles and minced pork(Chinese: 梅菜肉餅飯). They use the stem of the pickle instead of the leaves, so the minced pork is more tasty and crunchy, and since they put less starch, the taste of the pork is much stronger.
The steamed ribs(Chinese: 豉汁蒸排骨) are soft and tasty, even the cartilages are easy to crunch, but it doesn’t have pomelo peel as the traditional way, what a pity!
Such a big Lo Mai Kai (Chinese: 糯米雞) is quite rare nowadays, but the rarer is, there is a big Chinese bacon inside which smells great, good with the glutinous rice.
Black pepper pig’s stomach is old styled Hong Kong dim sum, almost no restaurant will make it, they only use black pepper to cook the pig’s stomach, so you can enjoy the original taste of the pig’s stomach.
All pig’s stomachs are cut in big pieces, smooth and crunchy, it is great for Choumeizai, but if you don’t eat viscera, don’t even think of it.
Although this restaurant is very small, the customers can enjoy the tea even though they have finished their food, the staff won’t push you.
The price of the food is reasonable, all dim sum are around 20 something Hong Kong Dollars, around 50 Hong Kong dollars can make you full already.
There is a very very old notice board next to the entrance, how long has it been standing here?
