Shenkeng Old Street (Chinese: 深坑老街) is an old street in Shenkeng District (深坑區), New Taipei City (新北市), Taiwan. The old street is famous for its tofu-related food, such as tofu flowers, tofu snacks and tofu popsicles from various types of tofu.
In the Qing Dynasty, Shenkeng was a must pass between Taipei (台北) and Yilan (宜蘭). It used to be a distribution center for tea and dyes.
Shenkeng Old Street is about 300 meters long, and even if you walk slowly, you can walk through it in at most 15 minutes.
The water quality of Shenkeng is clear, and the tofu is man made with brine, so the tofu is smooth and has a special firewood fragrance, so it is famous all over Taiwan.
In addition to tofu shops, there are many shops selling other snacks on the old street. Even if you don't like tofu, you can still enjoy shopping.
It is said that in the old days, there were only huts in Shenkeng Old Street. After a big fire broke out in a temple fair, red brick houses with better fire resistance began to be built on the street.
