Kat O (Chinese: 吉澳) also named Crooked Island, is an island in Northeast Hong Kong. Kat O was once a major fishing market in Hong Kong, it had about 10,000 residents in 1950s to 1960s. To learn the history of Kat O, tourists can go to Tin Hau Temple (天后廟) and Kat O Story Room (吉澳故事館).
Tin Hau Temple at Kat O was estimated to be built in 1763. It is located near the island’s northwest shoreline and listed as a Grade III historic building.
The outer walls and roof area of the temple feature many brightly coloured ceramic tiles and intricately designed figurines.
The temple was renovated in 1880 and 1968. Nowadays, it is still well preserved and attractive to tourists.
