Dihua Street (Chinese: 迪化街) is a street located in Taipei (台北), Taiwan.Since then and throughout the rest of the 19th century, Dihua Street has been an important centre for commerce in medicinal herbs, fabrics, and Taiwanese tea, it is also the oldest street in Taipei.
Dihua Street was established in the mid of the 19th century, it has around 70 old buildings with several architectural styles, which makes it look like an outdoor museum of architecture.
Dihua Street is a major destination during Chinese New Year festivities, it always bustles with people during the weeks before Chinese New Year.
There are many century-old shops in Dihua Street, the products selling here are quite unique. Besides tea leaves and dried seafood, the street also sells local snacks which are cheap and quality, an ideal place to buy souvenirs.
Many tourists come to Dihua Street due to the atmosphere of old Taiwan, most of them are Japanese, but no Hong Kong people.
As a Hongkonger, Choumeizai is highly interested in the relics of Watsons Pharmacy. ‘A.S. Watson’ shown outside the building is actually the acronym of Alexander Skirving Watson, the founder of Watsons Pharmacy.
The name "Dihua" was given in 1947 by the Republic of China government, in reference to the city of Dihua (now called Ürümqi, 烏魯木齊 in Chinese) in Xinjiang.
