Hani Rice Terraces (Chinese: 哈尼梯田) are the system of Hani rice-growing terraces located in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (紅河哈尼族彝族自治州), Yunnan (雲南) Province, China. Bada (壩達) is one of the popular scenic spots of Hani Rice Terraces, famous for the scenery of sunset.
The scope of Hani Rice Terraces is extremely big, the scenery of rice terraces is everywhere, you don’t need to go to scenic spots.
In 2013, the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces were listed as a World Heritage Site, because of their outstanding resilient construction, unique social-ecological system, and importance to the Hani people.
There are several observation decks in Baba, which allow tourists to enjoy the panoramic view of the rice terraces.
The total area stretches across 1,000,000 acres and four counties: Yuanyang (元陽), Honghe (紅河), Jinpin (金平) and Lüchun (綠春); the terraces located in Yuanyang County are amongst the most splendid.
Although Bada is famous for the scenery of sunset, it is still beautiful in the morning.
The history of Hani Rice Terraces spans around 1,200 years. The cultivation of rice is an important part of the Hani culture, theology, calendar, and political system.
The red rice grown here is incredibly delicious, you can buy it from the little shop right next to the main entrance.
