Phi Phi Islands (Thai: หมู่เกาะพีพี) are an island group in Thailand between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand. Ko Phi Phi Leh (เกาะพีพีเล), 6.6 square kilometres in area, is the second largest island of Phi Phi Islands.
Ko Phi Phi Leh consists of a ring of steep limestone hills surrounding two shallow bays, Maya Bay (อ่าวมาหยา) and Loh Samah (อ่าวโละสะมะ), while Maya Bay is the most best known one.
A Hollywood movie named The Beach was shot in Maya Bay, controversy arose due to bulldozing and landscaping the natural beach setting of Ko Phi Phi Le to make it more ‘paradise-like’ by the film company.
Ko Phi Phi Leh was devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, when nearly all of the island's infrastructure was destroyed.
Maya Bay is very beautiful, but the beach is packed with tourists, so Choumeizai doesn’t want to swim, only stays at the edge of the beach.
Loh Samah Bay is a small bay on the other side of Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Leh, it is not so crowded in comparison to Maya Bay.
Loh Samah Bay is a popular spot for snorkeling, but the coral is dead, only some fishes swimming around.
