Luang Phabang (Lao: ຫລວງພະບາງ/ຫຼວງພະບາງ) is a city in north central Laos, it was listed in 1995 for well preserved architectural, religious and cultural heritage. Buddhist temples are everywhere in Luang Phabang, Choumeizai will talk about Wat Mai (ວັດໃໝ່ສຸວັນນະພູມາ).
Wat Mai is Wat Mai was built at the turn of the 18th century, during the reign of King Anourout (ອານຸຣຸດທະ, 1795-1817).
Wat Mai is one of the biggest, most beautiful, and most photographed of all the wats in Luang Phabang. Like Wat Xieng Thong (ວັດຊຽງທອງ), it was spared the ravages of the Chinese invaders of the 1880s.
Historians believe that Wat Mai was spared by the Chinese invaders because they found it too beautiful to destroy.
Wat Mai served as a temple for the royal family and long has been the residence of the Supreme Patriarch of Lao Buddhism. Now it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Luang Phabang.
