Otaru (Japanese: 小樽) is a city and port in Shiribeshi Subprefecture (後志総合振興局), Hokkaido (北海道), Japan. Otaru Triangle Market (小樽三角市場) is located between Otaru Station and National Highway No. 5, a good place to taste the seafood of Hokkaido.
Otaru Triangle Market is actually only a short street with only about twenty shops, which is quite small.
Otaru Triangle Market was established in 1948. Originally, there were only three or several open-air stalls. Later, it attracted many vendors from the suburbs to set up shop here, and gradually developed into a morning market.
The shops in the market mainly sell seafood, and almost every one of them has a restaurant attached, where tourists can taste fresh seafood on the spot.
The name of the Otaru Triangle Market originated from the triangular form of the land and the roof of the market.
Perhaps the seafood here is fresh enough, and it's delicious just to make sashimi or boil it with sake.
Otaru Triangle Market is a tourist attraction and the goods are not cheap, especially fruits, which are more expensive than the supermarkets in the department store.
