Cape Santiago (Chinese: 三貂角) is located in Gongliao (Chinese: 貢寮) District of New Taipei, Taiwan, which is the easternmost cape in Taiwan, the scenery is beautiful but not so many tourists. Cape Santiago is one of the stops of Old Caoling Bikeway Loop (Chinese: 舊草嶺環狀線自行車道), the best way to visit Cape Santiago is riding bicycle.
In 1626, a Spanish fleet reached the northeast tip of Taiwan and named a native village(present-day Fulong Village) as Santiago. Later this name was extended to the nearby cape.
Cape Santiago is located on the northeast coast of Taiwan, the waves and wind are extremely strong due to lack of shelter. The shapes of the rocks along the seashore looks interesting and spectacular because of the erosion.
If you want to get some rest, you can go to Magang Village (Chinese: 馬崗漁村), this village is the easternmost village of Taiwan, there are still some traditional rock houses inside the village.
It is very windy around Cape Santiago, so it is not too hot even if you are underneath the sun, but there are only a few shades along the road, sunblock is a must.
