Guoliang Tunnel (Chinese: 郭亮洞) is located deep inside the Taihang Mountains (太行山) of China. The tunnel is around 1250 metres long, 5 metres tall and 4 metres wide. Guoliang Tunnel was started building in 1972 and it took 6 years to finish.
Guoliang Tunnel is the main passage between Guoliang Village and the outside world. It was said that a villager died during the construction of Guoliang Tunnel.
Without access to power tools, the villagers undertook construction mostly with hammers and chisels. At the most difficult stage, the tunnel progressed at a rate of one metre every three days.
Guoliang tunnel opened to traffic on 1 May 1977, Its creation has turned the village into a tourist attraction and made more people know about this great construction.
