Fengyu bridge (Chinese: 風雨橋 ) is an unique architecture of Dong Minority (侗族) in China, interesting and exotic. When Choumeizai go to Guangxi (廣西) of China, he has visited Yongji Bridge of Chengyang (程陽永濟橋).
Yongji Bridge of Chengyang was built in the early 20th century, it has been standing at the same place for over 100 years, both its structure and appearance are incredibly delicate.
Fengyu bridge is always built at the main entrance of the village, which functions as a lounge or shelter, it is also a lobby to welcome guests, it can be divided into 3 parts: bridge, tower and pavilion.
Yongji Bridge of Chengyang is a popular tourist attraction, many stalls flank both sides of the bridge, which turn the bridge into a small shopping mall.
Fengyu bridge is a kind of covered bridge which is always seen in Hunan (湖南), Hubei (湖北), Guizhou(貴州) and Guangxi. The traditional Fengyu bridges are constructed by wood and only apply the method of mortise and tenon to connect the joints, which shows the excellent architectural skill of local Dong people.
Not so far from Yongji Bridge of Chengyang, there is a new cemented ‘Fengyu bridge’, it looks solid but Choumeizai is still not sure if it can stay longer than Yongji Bridge of Chengyang.
