Hani Rice Terraces (Chinese: 哈尼梯田) are the system of Hani rice-growing terraces located in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (紅河哈尼族彝族自治州), Yunnan (雲南) Province, China. Laohuzui (老虎嘴) is one of the popular scenic spots of Hani Rice Terraces, famous for viewing sunset.
The stairs between the main entrance and the observation decks are quite long and steep, just be careful.
Laohuzui, literally means ‘Tiger’s snout’ in Chinese, has several observation decks, while the second one has the best view.
When the sunset is getting close, the observation decks become crowded, some of the tourists have set up their expensive cameras, trying to capture the magnificent scenery of the sunset.
In 2013, the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces were listed as a World Heritage Site, because of their outstanding resilient construction, unique social-ecological system, and importance to the Hani people.
The facilities in the scenic area of Laohuzui are quite complete, it has restaurants, shops and toilets.
The history of Hani Rice Terraces spans around 1,200 years. The cultivation of rice is an important part of the Hani culture, theology, calendar, and political system.
