Kecak, known in Indonesian as tari kecak, is a form of Hindu dance cum music drama in Bali, Indonesia. The dance is performed mainly by men and is traditionally performed in temples and villages across Bali, which is marvelous and worth watching.
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is a Hindu temple located at the south of Bali, it can be seen as the most popular venue of Kecak, which attracts a lot of tourists.
The dance starts at 6 in the evening, the stage uses beautiful sunset as background, very poetic.
The whole performance has no instrumental accompaniment, a choir of 70 men do all the singing, music and sound effects.
Kecak is based on the story of the Ramayana, since Ramayana is very long, the show only focuses on the romance between Rama and Sati.
It is really a good show, but the venue management is awful, even though the show has started for a while, the staff still keep stuffing the audience in the auditorium, even worse, in the middle of the show, some audience leave and go through the stage, so disturbing.
To remind you, the auditorium has no rooftop, if you don’t want to get sunburned, bring an umbrella.
