Sun Island (Chinese: 太陽島) is located on the north bank of Songhua River (松花江) in Harbin (哈爾濱) of Heilongjiang (黑龍江) Province, China. Sun Island is a wetland, in winter it will become the site for Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival (哈爾濱國際冰雪節).
The outdoor temperature is around minus 16 degrees Celsius, the whole Songhua River is frozen.
The admission to Sun Island in summer is only 20 Renminbi, but it climbs to 80 Renminbi in winter because of the festival.
Snow sculpture is a form of sculpture that uses snow as the raw material, which is totally different from ice sculptures but similar to sand sculptures.
Besides the official snow sculptures, there are many small snow sculptures made by the local secondary school students, some of the sculptures look quite botchy.
Although there are many toilets in the park, most of them are frozen in winter, the only available toilet is the one inside the tourist center, don’t drink too much water.
