Nikkō (Japanese: 日光) is a city located in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. Since Nikko is not far from Tokyo, It is a popular destination for tourists. but most tourists only know Nikkō Tōshō-gū (日光東照宮) and Lake Chūzenji (中禅寺湖), they don’t know Okunikko (奥日光), which is more peaceful and beautiful.
Walking is the best way to enjoy the natural beauty of Okunikko. Okunikko has a hiking trail, the starting point is right next to Lake Yunoko (湯ノ湖) the Yumoto Onsen (湯元溫泉).
The hiking trail is mainly built of wood and looks so natural, as if it has blended into the forest.
You can arrive Yu waterfall (湯滝) after 30 minutes walk from Lake Yunoko, the water from the lake pouring down here and makes a splendid waterfall.
The observation deck is at the bottom of the waterfall, you can see the whole waterfall and feel its overwhelming power.
After you have gone through a peaceful forest, you can reach another small waterfall: Kotaki (小滝) , not as splendid as Yu waterfall but still beautiful.
The road signs of the hiking trail is very clear, every junction has road signs for sure which mark the direction and distance, you won’t get lost even though you don’t have any map in hand.
