Shifen Waterfall (Chinese: 十分大瀑布) is a scenic waterfall located in Pingxi District (平溪區), New Taipei City (新北市), Taiwan, on the upper reaches of the Keelung River (基隆河). The waterfall is nicknamed the “Little Niagara of Taiwan” due to its splendor.
On the way through a suspension bridge, there is Eyeglasses Cave Waterfall (眼鏡洞瀑布) under the suspension bridge. The waterfall is named after its eyeglass-like hole.
The name Shifen was taken from the 10 original families who developed the area in Pingxi.
Shifen Waterfall is 20 meters high and 40 meters wide, making it the broadest waterfall in Taiwan. It is a cascade waterfall in which the water flows in one direction and the rock is sloped in the opposite.
The riverbed of the waterfall consists of several potholes which were caused by the uneven flow of the river, thus creating vortexes that trap passing rocks and causing them to spin and carve holes.
The land surrounding the waterfall was private land for a long time and a private company collected entrance fees from the visitors.
In 2014, New Taipei city's Tourism and Travel Department acquired the land around the waterfall and created a municipal park and made the admission to the park free.
