Jiufen (Chinese: 九份), literally means 'nine portions', is a seaside mountain area in Ruifang (瑞芳) District, New Taipei City (新北市), Taiwan. Jishan Road (基山街) still largely maintains its old appearance and is the main shopping street in Jiufen.
Jishan Road is also known as Dark Street. You never see the sunlight and it is usually packed with people, particularly on weekends and holidays.
There are many restaurants on Jishan Road, and each shop has its own characteristics.
Roasted snails are roasted together with the shell on a charcoal fire, the snail meat is refreshing and chewy.
In the early years, Jiufen was prosperous because of gold mines, but it declined after the mines were exhausted.
Fish ball soup and flower ball soup are one of Jiufen's signature dishes, each restaurant has its own recipe.
The best time to visit Jiufen Old Street is from 4 pm to 6 pm, since most of the tour groups leave before 4 pm, the street is not too crowded.
In addition, there is no night market in Jiufen. Except for some coffee shops and restaurants that will open at night, most of the shops will close around 6 pm, so remember to go shopping early.
