Shennongjia (Chinese: 神農架) is a forestry district in northwestern Hubei (河北) Province, China. Shennongding (神農頂) is the highest peak in Shennongjia, which is 3106 meters above sea level, also deemed to be the highest in Central China.
On the way to Shennongding, you will pass by Shennonggu (神農谷), this valley is over 1,000 meters deep.
神農谷深達1000米,由山腳步行上來需要大概6小時。
On the top of Shennongding there is a lookout, tourists can enjoy the panoramic view of the mountains.
The average height of Shennongjia is around 1,700 meters, so Shennongjia is considered as ‘The ridge of Central China’ (華中屋脊).
Not far from the top of Shennongding there is a slope named Jianzhuhai (箭竹海), literally meaning ‘The sea of Arrow Bamboo’, Arrow Bamboo is the common name of Fargesia.
Fargesia is a kind of bamboo native primarily to China, which is the essential food for giant pandas.
Some of Hubei's highest mountains, which are also the highest mountains of the Daba Shan (大巴山), are located within Shennongjia.
