The Basílica de la Sagrada Família ('Basilica of the Sacred Family')also known as the Sagrada Família, is a large unfinished Roman Catholic minor basilica in Barcelona of Spain, designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. If Choumeizai hasn’t witnessed Sagrada Família with his own eyes, he can’t believe there is such a splendid architecture in the world.
Sagrada Família is very very huge, you can barely put it in one single shot even if you use a wide angle lens.
Relying solely on private donations, the Sagrada Família's construction progressed slowly. It is anticipated that the building can be completed by 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death.
The Church has three grand façades: the Nativity façade to the East, the Passion façade to the West, and the Glory façade to the South (yet to be completed). Dedicated to the birth of Jesus, the Nativity façade is decorated with scenes reminiscent of elements of life.
Gaudí loved nature, so he used many images of plants and animals in the design of Sagrada Família.
Dedicated to the Passion of Christ, the suffering of Jesus during his crucifixion, the Passion façade was intended to portray the sins of man.
The sculptures of the Passion Façade were completed by Josep Maria Subirachs, he followed the drawings and instructions left by Gaudí for future architects and sculptors, aimed to give a rigid, angular form to provoke a dramatic effect.
The sculptures work as the Bible, all visitors can read the Bible while they are viewing the sculptures.
To remind you, Sagrada Família has many many visitors, you must book the tickets in advance.
