Amanohashidate (Japanese: 天橋立) is a natural sandbar located in Miyazu Bay (宮津灣) of northern Kyoto Prefecture (京都府), Japan. The scenery of Amanohashidate is beautiful, but a rotating bridge is more impressive.
The rotating bridge connects the Amanohashidate landbridge and the mainland, it will turn 90 degrees when ships pass through the waterway.
If you want to see the rotation of this unusual bridge, the best time is in the morning, since there are more ships going through the waterway.
The original bridge built in 1923 was hand-operated but was later made electric in May of 1960 due to any increase in the number of ships using the waterway.
