Kyū-Furukawa Garden (Japanese: 旧古河庭園) is a metropolitan park in Nishigahara (西原), Tokyo, Japan. The park includes an old western-style mansion with a rose garden, and a Japanese garden which were built in the early 20th century.
The rose garden is built on a slope and has a geometric structure, which makes Kyū-Furukawa Garden a popular place for seeing rose blossoms.
Kyū-Furukawa Garden was built by Baron Toranosuke Furukawa (古河虎之助), the western-style building and western-style garden were completed in 1917, which were designed by an English architect.
Inside Kyū-Furukawa Garden there is a carriage way, looks like an English garden.
The Japanese garden is surrounded by a deep forest, not so artificial as the western-style garden.
In the centre of the Japanese garden is an artificial pond called ‘Shin- ji- Ike’ (心字池) which means ‘Heart letter pond’, because its pattern is designed by Kanji ‘心(Shin)’ which means heart.
Kyū-Furukawa Garden is not so big, you can walk around the whole garden in one hour. If you take JR, you can go from Komagome Station (駒込駅).
