Wulai (Chinese: 烏來) is a mountain indigenous district in southern New Taipei City (新北市), Taiwan. Wulai is famous for its hot springs, sightseeing and aboriginal culture. Wulai Waterfall (烏來瀑布) and Yun Hsien Resort (雲仙樂園) are the major scenic spots in Wulai.
Wulai Waterfall is around 80 meters high and 10 meters wide, it is the waterfall with the largest drop in northern Taiwan.
Wulai Ropeway started operation in 1967, connecting the Wulai Waterfall neighborhood to Yun Hsien Resort. It is the first aerial cable car carrying passengers in Taiwan, and the journey takes only five minutes.
Yun Hsien Resort is a forest recreation area located in the valley above Wulai Waterfall. There are restaurants, tree-lined trails, archery ranges and swimming pools and other recreational facilities in the resort.
In Yun Hsien Resort, you can also find a haunted house and some amusement rides, but most of them have long been abandoned and look a bit spooky.
You can enjoy the dance shows of the Atayal (泰雅)people in Yun Hsien Resort, which are quite interesting. Wulai is home to the indigenous Atayal people.
The population of Atayal people is around 90,000, making them the third-largest indigenous group.Atayal people are also known for using facial tattooing and teeth filing in coming-of-age initiation rituals.
