Mount Cook is located in the Canterbury region, New Zealand. Mount Cook is the highest mountain (3,724 meters) in New Zealand and well known for its scenery. There are many hiking trails in the Mount Cook National Park, Red Tarn Track is relatively short.
The track begins with over 2000 stairs, throughout the hike you can overlook the entire Mount Cook Village and the snow-capped peaks in the distance.
The official name of Mount Cook is Aoraki/Mount Cook. Aoraki is the name of a person in the mythology of a South Island Māori tribe, which means ‘Cloud Piercer’.
There is a looping trail on the top of the hill, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way.
The plant life in the majority of the park consists mostly of alpine plants, peculiar and beautiful. Perhaps the altitude here is too high, and the snow has not yet melted.
Choumeizai then reaches another lookout, from here you can clearly see Mount Cook.
The English name of Mount Cook was given in 1851 by Captain John Lort Stokes to honour Captain James Cook who surveyed and circumnavigated the islands of New Zealand in 1770.
The Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park was established in 1953. The park is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in New Zealand.
