Qixia Mountain (Chinese: 棲霞山) is a mountain in the northeast part of Nanjing (南京), Jiangsu (江蘇) Province , China. Qixia Mountain has many scenic spots and historical sites, it is famous for red leaves in autumn.
Qixia Mountain provides transportation, one way ticket costs 10 RMB per person, but the arrangement of queuing is a bit messy.
Qixia Mountain is not big, it takes only 10 minutes to reach the peak, from the lookout you can view almost the whole Qixia Mountain, just a bit hazy.
There was a Qixia cottage (棲霞精舍) in the mountain in the Southern Dynasties (南朝; 420–589), that’s how the mountain got its name.
Qixia Mountain is only 22km from the downtown of Nanking city, many locals will come here on weekends and Sundays, making it a bit noisy.
At the lower part of the mountain there is a place called ‘Royal Garden’, it was said that every time when Qianlong Emperor visited Qixia Mountain, he would live here.
Qianfoya (千佛崖) grottos next to the Qixia Temple (棲霞寺) has over 1,500 years old, another famous attraction in Qixia Mountain, but the statues and relieves look so shabby due to their long history.
