Mount Davis Fortress (Chinese: 摩星嶺炮台) is located on the top and the mountainside of Mount Davis, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. The fortress was a military fortress during the Battle of Hong Kong, but now there is no military use, only ruins remain.
Mount Davis (摩星嶺) is 269 meters tall, it is an area surrounding and including the westernmost hill on Hong Kong Island.
As early as 1900, the British army proposed to build a defense facility on Mount Davis, the construction started in 1909 and was completed three years later.
Mount Davis Fortress is overgrown with weeds and trees. Although it is sunny, Choumeizai still feels a little gloomy and spooky.
Mount Davis is named after Sir John Francis Davis, who was the 2nd Governor of Hong Kong, from 1844 to 1848.
The Battle of Hong Kong (8–25 December 1941) was one of the first battles of the Pacific War in World War II. Forces of the Empire of Japan attacked Hong Kong, without declaring war against the British Empire.
Although Mount Davis Fortress has been listed as a Grade II historic building by the Hong Kong government, due to lack of conservation, weeds are everywhere like a ruin.
