Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya (Sinhala: රාජකීය උද්භිද උද්යානය, ශ්රී ලංකාව) are about 5.5 km to the west of the city of Kandy of Sri Lanka. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees.
The botanical garden is divided into several areas. The Bamboo Collection and the Palm Collection are the larger ones, with a collection of bizarre bamboo and palm trees.
The total area of the botanical garden is 0.59 square kilometers and at 460 meters above sea level, it is better to take the map in the ticket office before you walk around.
The Great Lawn is the most beautiful part of the botanical garden. There is a huge Java Fig Tree in the middle of the lawn. This tree should be very old, and Choumeizai can feel the aura of the tree.
Cook's Pine Avenue looks grand and elegant, there are many bats hanging on the pine trees, they look so eerie.
The garden was formally established in 1843 with plants brought from Kew Garden, Slave Island, Colombo, and the Kalutara Garden in Kalutara.
Royal Palm Avenue has the same layout as Cook's Pine Avenue, but looks more tropical and exotic.
The park provides free shuttle bus service. If you don't want to walk, you can take the shuttle bus to and from the entrance and the suspension bridge.
