Bangkok is crowded with tourists all year, but Wat Suthat(Thai: วัดสุทัศนเทพวราราม) which is next to Chinatown is an exception, if you are fed up with the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, you should come here to enjoy the peace and serenity.
Wat Suthat is a Buddhist temple, it is also a royal temple of the first grade.Construction was begun by King Rama I in 1807.
There are many statues inside, some of them are traditional Chinese style, while some of them are old British style, looks like an outdoor antique market.
At the lower terrace of the base, there are 28 pagodas which symbolize the 28 Buddhas born on this earth.
The architecture of Wat Suthat is splendid and beautiful, the colors are so vivid, even if you are not interested in Buddhist temple, you can still come here to take photos.
There are many buildings inside Wat Suthat, some of them have exquisite murals which can be dating back to Rama 2, with high historical value.
A big golden Buddha statue is enshrined in the main hall, which was made in the 14th century, and transported from Sukhothai to here by King Rama1.
Wat Suthat doesn’t have many tourists, most of the people who come here are pilgrims, so be quiet while you are visiting.
In addition, outside the entrance of Wat Suthat lies a giant swing(Sao Ching Cha), such a giant wing is also one of the landmarks in Bangkok, but now you cannot swing here of course.
