Udaipur (Hindi: उदयपुर) is a city in the state of Rajasthan (राजस्थान), India. It is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar (मेवाड़). Udaipur earns the name of ‘City of Lakes’ because of Lake Pichola (पिछोला झील), which has several beautiful relics in the lake.
Jag Mandir (जग मंदिर), literally means "Lake Garden Palace", is a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola.
The construction of the palace was started in 1551 by Maharana Amar Singh, continued by Maharana Karan Singh (1620–1628) and finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I (1628–1652).
The palace is named as "Jagat Mandir" in honour of the last named Maharana Jagat Singh. The royal family used the palace as a summer resort and pleasure palace for holding parties.
The cruise boat on Lake Pichola is a circular line, and the cruise boat travels between Jag Mandir and the urban area of Udaipur every 15 minutes.
There is a little temple named Mohan Mandir in Lake Pichola, from where the king would watch the annual Gangaur festival celebration.
Lake Palace (लेक पैलेस), formally known as Jag Niwas, is a former summer palace of the royal dynasty of Mewar, it is now turned into a hotel.
Lake Palace was built between 1743 and 1746 under the direction of Jagat Singh II (जगत सिंह द्वितीय) of Udaipur, Rajasthan as a summer palace.
