Zhu’s Family Garden (Chinese: 朱家花園) is located in Jianshui Old Town, Jianshui (建水) is a county in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (紅河哈尼族彝族自治州), Yunnan (雲南) Province, China. The garden covers more than 20,000 square meters, it is one of the popular tourist attractions in Jianshui.
Some of the houses have been revamped as museum, showcasing some old photos and remnants of Zhu’s Family.
Zhu’s Family Garden, as the name suggests, was built by the family of Zhu in the late 19yh century. This family originally was born in Hunan (湖南) Province then entered Yunnan in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
In the late 19th century, Zhu family began to develop business and industry, also opened up mines, then gradually developed into the leading wealthy tycoon in southern Yunnan.
There are some shops selling local products in Zhu’s Family Garden, an ideal lace to buy souvenirs.
Zhu’s Family Garden includes 42 separate courtyards, comprising ancestral buildings, family homes, ponds and lovely gardens, it took around 30 years to build.
There is a big outdoor theater in front of the main entrance of the ancestral hall, tourists can sit here to enjoy tea and the peaceful atmosphere.
Zhu’s Family Garden contains profound cultural connotations, it is also the combination of the mainland and the frontier culture which has a high art value in architecture.
