Nara Park (Japanese: 奈良公園) is a public park located in the city of Nara (奈良), Japan, at the foot of Mount Wakakusa (若草山). The freely roaming wild sika deer is one of the main attractions for tourists.
There are over 1,200 wild sika deers in Nara Park, visitors can purchase ‘deer-crackers’ (鹿煎餅) to feed them.
Nara Park is famous for its Sakura in spring and red leaves in autumn. It is the best time for red leaves when Choumeizai visits, so there are so many tourists in the park.
Established in 1880, Nara Park is one of the oldest parks in Japan, its official size is about 502 hectares.
According to local folklore, the deer from this area were considered sacred due to a deity who was riding a white deer and appeared on Mount Wakakusa.
Although the deers seem so mild, they will attack humans when ignited, so be gentle.
