Mountain Province is a landlocked province of the Philippines in the Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon, its capital is Bontoc. Mountain Province is 83% mountainous while 17% make up hills and levels, the natural scenery is excellent.
Mountain Province was formerly referred to as Mountain in some foreign references, and the name is usually shortened by locals to Mt. Province.
The rice terraces are the main tourist attractions in Mountain Province. In 1995, the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras were declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
These terraces are believed to have been hand-carved into the mountains 2,000 years ago. However, recent research by carbon dating suggests that they were built much later.
Some local old women approach Choumeizai while taking photos. These women are Ifugao people, an ethnic minority living in Ifugao Province.
There is a viewing platform at the junction of the Mountain Province and Ifugao Province, offering a panoramic view of the scenery.
The term "Ifugao" is derived from "ipugo" which means "earth people", "mortals" or "humans", as distinguished from spirits and deities. It also means "from the hill", as “pugo” means hill.
