Ulan Butung (Mongolian: ᠤᠯᠠᠭᠠᠨ ᠪᠤᠲᠤᠩ; Chinese: 烏蘭布統) is a sumu in Chifeng (赤峰), Inner Mongolia, China. Sumu (ᠰᠤᠮᠤ) is a type of administrative district used in Mongolia. The white birch forest is one of the popular tourist attractions in Ulan Butung.
The white birch can grow to be 20 to 30 meters tall, its wood is commonly used in furniture and plywood, it also has a thin peeling bark, which is used by the ancient Mongolian as writing paper.
The leaves of the white birch will turn yellow in autumn, which makes the tree golden and shiny under the sunlight.
It is warmer in the valley, so some of the leaves are still green, the light and shadow keep turning green and yellow, and looks incredibly beautiful.
On the top of the hills you can always see Ovoo (ᠥᠪᠥᠭᠭᠠ), Ovoo are sacred stone heaps used as altars or shrines in Mongolian folk religious practice. They are usually made from rocks with wood.
Another valley is more windy, so all white birches are shining golden yellow, with a winding cute little stream, the scenery is beautiful as a dream.
The most important is, there is no one here except Choumeizai, the most beautiful scenery is the no man scenery.
