Xiao Qing Lou (小青樓) is right in the middle of the garden area of the mansion, it only has two stories and its architecture mixes with both Western and Chinese styles.
This building was constructed in 1918 for Zhang Zuolin’s 5th wife, who was his favorite. On June 4, Zhang Zuolin died here after he was bombed by Japanese army.
Residence of Edith Zhao (趙一荻故居) was commissioned by the wife of Zhang Xueliang to house his mistress Edith Chao (趙一荻).
The exterior of the residence is unremarkable, while the inside is outfitted with French furniture, simple but elegant.
None of the original furniture survived after the Zhang family vacated the premises, all furniture and decoration displayed there are only reproductions.
Edith Zhao lived in this small house with Zhang Xueliang from 1928 until 1930, then they got married in Taiwan.
