Marshal Zhang’s Mansion (Chinese: 張氏帥府) is located in Shenyang (瀋陽), Liaoning (遼寧) Province, China. The mansion was first built in 1914, covering an area of 36,000 square meters and the construction area of 27,600 square meters.
Marshal Zhang’s Mansion served as the residence for both Commander Zhuang Zuolin (張作霖) and his son, Young Marshal Zhang Xueliang (張學良).
The tallest structure of Commander Zhang’s Mansion is Da Qing Lou (大青樓). This building was constructed in 1922 and served as the main office and private residence to both Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang and their families.
Vastly different in style from the old-fashioned courtyards the families stayed in before, this structure is of neoclassical elegance. At that time, Da Qing Lou was the second highest building in Fengtian (奉天, now Shenyang).
Only the ground floor and the first floor are open to the public, but the viewing platform up on the roof is not.
Tourists can still visit Zhang Zuolin’s office and his bedroom, the banquet hall and the office where the Northeast Administrative Committee held their meetings.
The construction of the rockeries around Da Qing Lou was commanded by Zhuang Zuolin, used as the barriers to protect Da Qing Lou.
Guandi Temple (關帝廟) stuck in a corner of the garden area is dedicated to Guan Yu (關羽), a general-turned-deity that serves as a role model for many military men.
