When you go to Bangkok, be cautious of the 'Mafia restaurant' and 'Mafia Taxi', below is a personal experience of Choumeizai. Although it has been many years ago, Choumeizai still feels furious every time he thinks back.
There is a restaurant named 'Somboon' which is famous and delicious in Bangkok. Choumeizai didn't want to walk, so Choumeizai took a taxi to go there. The taxi then drove Choumeizai to a desolated street which was dark and dirty, but when Choumeizai wanted to ask the driver, the taxi arrived at the destination. The restaurant was so crude that it looked like a temporary shelter made of tents, Choumeizai hesitated, but after he had seen the neon light which formed the word 'Somboon', he sat down.
The menu startled Choumeizai, the prices started from 300Thai Baht even for very simple food, some of the 'Special' such as lobster, crab and tiger prawn doesn't shown any price, Choumeizai only ordered the cheapest.
Since the food was incredibly awful, Choumeizai grabbed a waitress and asked, 'Hey! Is this Somboon?'
'No, this is Somboondee.'
Choumeizai was startled, looked up and found that the neon light actually showed the words 'Somboondee', not 'Somboon', the one which Choumeizai intended to go.
Such an awful dinner cost 1,600Thai Baht, obviously, it was a tourist trap conspired both by the restaurant and taxi drivers.
Choumeizai then looked for 'Somboondee' on the internet, which found that such a restaurant was so notorious for trapping tourists. Choumeizai hopes anyone who has seen this post must spread out the evil of 'Somboondee', thanks!
