Luding Bridge (Chinese: 瀘定橋) is a bridge over the Dadu River (大渡河) in Luding County (瀘定), Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (Tibetan: དཀར་མཛེས་བོད་རིགས་རང་སྐྱོང་ཁུལ།), Sichuan Province (四川省) , China. The bridge dates from the Qing (清) Dynasty and is considered a historical landmark.
Luding Bridge was built in the 46th year of Emperor Kangxi (康熙) in the Qing Dynasty (1706). The. Ridge is an outstanding work of ancient bridge construction and the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in China.
Before the completion of the Luding Bridge, most of the local people crossed the Dadu River by means of bamboo ropes, rattan ropes or nearby ferry ports.
Luding Bridge is 103 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 13 iron chains are fixed. There are 12,164 iron rings in total and a weight of more than 40 tons.
The main body of the Luding Bridge is entirely structured with iron chains, straddling the mountains on both sides of the bank.
The Guanyin Pavilion (觀音閣) is built behind the east side of the bridge. From the second floor of the Guanyin Pavilion, you can overlook the entire Luding Bridge with a good view.
Luding Bridge was the location of the Battle of Luding Bridge (瀘定橋之戰), one of the most important events in the Long March of the Chinese Red Army.
