Kinabatangan River (Malay: Sungai Kinabatangan) is a river in Sandakan Division, northeastern Sabah of Malaysia. Lower Kinabatangan floodplain is known for its high-biodiversity habitats for wildlife such as Proboscis Monkey.
Proboscis Monkey (Nasalis larvatus) or long-nosed monkey is an arboreal Old World monkey with an unusually large nose, a reddish-brown skin color and a long tail. Proboscis Monkey is endemic to the Borneo and is found mostly in mangrove forests and on the coastal areas of the island.
Proboscis Monkey has a bulging stomach which helps it to digest the tree leaves, it will occasionally chew their cud to allow more efficient digestion and food intake.
Proboscis Monkey co-exists with the Bornean Macaque since they consume different kinds of foods and don’t need to fight with each other.
