Lembeh Strait (Indonesia: Selat Lembeh) is a narrow stretch of water between Sulawesi and Lembeh Island (Pulau Lembeh), Indonesia. Lembeh Strait is world-known for its extremely high density of rare and unusual marine life, in particular Fingered Dragonet.
Dactylopus dactylopus, known commonly as Fingered Dragonet, is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the central Indo-Pacific region from Indonesia to Palau Islands.
Fingered Dragonet is found at depths of from 1 to 55 metres and prefers sandy or muddy substrates, often with weed growth, this species can reach a length of 30 centimetres.
Fingered Dragonet is identified by the finger-like separate first rays of the ventral fins, which can help it ‘crawl’ on the seabed.
By the way, these fishes are not seahorses but they can ‘stand’ under the sea, does anyone know what they are?
