Sai-no-Kawahara Park(Japanese: 西の河原公園) of Kusatsu Onsen is built along a hot spring river, there are many outdoor hot springs, the scenery is also beautiful, especially after snowfall.
Cold weather actually has a benefit, no people in the park, so the scenery is cleaner. All the stairs and rocks in the park are covered with white snow, the contrast is clear and looks so beautiful.
All outdoor footbaths along the path are free of charge, if you want to enjoy the footbaths, you should bring your own towel. Taking a bath in a hot spring under the snow, it is extraordinarily romantic.
There is a shrine named Anamori Inari Shrine inside the park, the shrine is so small that you can walk to the top within one minute, looking down from the top, both red and white are more prominent, very Japan.
On the other hand, going up a bit is 'Yubodo Azumaya'(遊步道東屋), a short hiking trail, but it looks so beautiful under the snow.
At the end of Yubodo Azumaya is 'Oni no sumoujo'(鬼の相撲場), it should be a swamp lake, but now it is frozen and covered with snow, no one is here but a lonely little snowman...
