Kat O (Chinese: 吉澳) also named Crooked Island, is an island in Northeast Hong Kong. With an area of 2.35 km², Kat O is the closest island to Mainland China in Hong Kong. The nature of Kat O is well preserved, especially O Pui Tong (澳背塘).
Ko Pang Teng (高棚頂) is an ideal location to enjoy the panoramic view of O Pui Tong, it takes around 25 minutes to walk here from Kat O Pier.
O Pui Tong is located at the eastern side of Kat O. It is surrounded by Kat O and a small island.
There are several abandoned rice terraces around Ko Pang Teng. Besides fishery, rice cultivation used to be one of the main industries of Kat O.
From the top of Ko Pang Teng, you can walk down another path, no need to turn around.
On the way to Kat O Pier, you can see many wild buffaloes wandering around happily, just don’t get close.
O Pui Tong used to be a fish culture zone, but it has long been abandoned.
If Ko Pang Teng is a bit far to you, you can go to the lookout on Ko Tei Teng (高地頂), it takes around 10 minutes to walk there from Kat O Pier, but the view is not as good as Ko Pang Teng.
