Hassan II Mosque (Arabic: مسجد الحسن الثاني, French: Grande Mosquée Hassan II) is a mosque in Casablanca, Morocco. The mosque stands on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic Ocean, worshippers can pray over the sea.
Morocco is very close to Europe, so the interior decorations of the mosque embrace some European style, the mosque looks like a European palace.
The history of Hassan II Mosque is not that long, you can go around the mosque by yourself without a tour guide.
The building blends Islamic architecture and Moroccan elements, and reflects Moorish influences, exquisite but not tacky.
Some areas are restricted for tourists, so the area for sightseeing is not so big, around 40 minutes is more than enough.
In the basement there is an ablution room and a vast public hammam, it is said that the public hammam can house 1,400 people at the same time.
The museum is just next to the ticket counter, which showcases art pieces from various traditional Moroccan arts as well as unused architectural elements of the mosque.
