Imperial fora (Fora Imperatorum) are a series of monumental fora (public squares), constructed in Rome over a period of one and a half centuries, between 46 BC and 113 AD. Let’s take a look at the Forum of Nerva and Trajan's Forum.
The construction of the Forum of Nerva (Forum Nervae) was started by Emperor Domitian before the year 85 AD, but officially completed and opened by his successor, Nerva, in 97 AD, hence its official name. It was the fourth and smallest of the imperial fora.
Forum of Nerva also named Forum Transitorium, mostly due to the enclosure including a part of this ancient route.
Trajan's Forum (Forum Traiani) was the last of the Imperial fora to be constructed in ancient Rome. The forum was built on the order of the emperor Trajan, the construction began between 105 and 107 and the Forum was inaugurated in 112.
In the mid-9th century, the marble cobble blocks of the Trajan's Forum were systematically taken for re-use, because of the good quality of the lime.
Imperial fora, while not part of the Roman Forum, are located relatively close to each other. The fora were the center of the Roman Republic and of the Roman Empire.
