Mỹ Tho is a city in the Tiền Giang province in the Mekong Delta region of South Vietnam. Due to its proximity to Saigon, Mỹ Tho was the gateway to the Mekong Delta, and there are many small islands on the Mekong river, Que Dua Islet is one of them.
Que Dua, literally means ‘Village of coconut’. However, there are not many coconut trees on the island, and there is only one coconut sugar factory instead.
The islanders still use traditional methods to make coconut candy, but the candy tastes weird and tough, so choumeizai doesn’t buy any.
There is also a rice paper factory on Que Dua, but the workers are resting so no one demonstrates the process of making rice paper.
There are many different kinds of rice paper, and tourists can buy a few packs for souvenirs after visiting.
Although it is a tourist area, there are still many traditional houses on Que Dua, and the environment is still peaceful.
After the sightseeing, Choumeizai tries the Vietnamese food at a restaurant on the island, elephant ear gourami is the specialty of the Mekong River. The fish is crispy outside but tender inside, very delicious.
Besides the elephant ear gourami, the other dishes are also good, Choumeizai especially likes their lemongrass chicken.
